By reading the enthusiastic comments to Cheeto’s post of Revolver, one gets the feeling that many Swampers (and me among them) highly appreciate the death’n’roll genre. Very amusing and groovy genre: the rock’n’roll rhythms enlighten the tragic, fierce sounds of death metal, or else black metal, when it comes to the kin black’n’roll genre. Well, I must say that I like the something’n’roll in general …
In the comments Cheeto was making a preliminary list of many bands playing death’n’roll-type metal. Phazm is another voice added to that list.

Phazm is a French band with a peculiar style which is well described in these lines, taken from a review in heavymetal.about.com: “Phazm throws in everything from black metal to death metal to southern rock to thrash to traditional metal to progressive metal. It's a little uneven in spots, but there are more hits than misses.” And about the vocals: “They aren't really the true black metal rasp, but a strange combination of rasping, gurgling and singing.” As one can guess from their band photos, the voice sounds generously whiskey-fueled …
Although their lyrics are often on necrophilia, the tracks transmit a sense of great fun, as do some of their interviews I read time ago. Well, these guys like to joke!
Canonic reviewers on metal magazines and webzines often treated Phazm badly, maybe because of their contaminated style or their laid-back, slack attitude, I don’t know. Reviews and comments by most of the “end-users” (metalheads) sound quite different!
Phazm’s album “Cornerstone to the Macabre” was one of my favourite CDs in 2008. Here I propose their previous one, the 2006 album "Antebellum Death’n’Roll", because it is equally nice and because its cover image is absolutely amusing!
