The band lives on in music......

"You know what sucks? Bands that are great live but can’t capture that same energy and feeling on record. Dixie Witch and Orange Goblin fall into that category.

And now here come King Valley with Greatest Hits Volume 8. The seven songs on the disc (eight if you count the almost inaudible nonsense eight minutes into "Astro Train") offer a solid take on what can only be described as American Hard Rock, distilled from muscle cars and Kyuss. It’s good stuff, catchy without being cloying, and rocks consistently from start to finish, but I can’t shake the feeling that live King Valley are an entirely different band.

I think what it comes down to is that on Greatest Hits Volume 8, there’s too much emphasis to make it sound professional, and as a result, the songs become too polished. On tracks like the excellent "Drawing Flies," it’s not that big of a deal. It’s a fairly layered number that shows off the band’s skills (including the impressive pipes of lead singer TC). But on "Squink," the drums sound painfully separate from the rest of the music, and the production makes the punkish "Detect the Reject" sound too mannered for its own good. It’s a shame, because both songs are good. On "Astro Train," the band manages to let a little more grit come through, and it's there that you can hear what they really have to offer.

Overall, it’s not bad, and I wouldn’t have a problem recommending Greatest Hits Volume 8 if you were a fan of Devil to Pay, Unida, or hard rock in general. I just hope that their next release sounds a little uglier. " (stonerrock.com)
