I love to spotlight new bands here at the Swamp, and here's another great one hailing from the Bay area. Scott, from the de-tuned heavy sludge band Kowloon Walled City wrote to us and asked if I'd be interested in his band. I'm listening to their album, and it's some heavy shit. They have sludge down to a science, I believe. Big, down-tuned distorted guitar riffs, with that cool feedback, great screamed sludge vocals, lots of bass, and heavy drumming. I like it.....
"Utilitarian. That single word defines iron-throated frontman Scott Evans’ vision of Kowloon Walled City: no adornments, no studio trickery, no bullshit. The San Francisco four-piece — Evans on guitar/vox, drummer Jeff Fagundes, bassist Ian Miller, and guitarist Jason Pace — are like one giant rhythm section, pummeling listeners with drop-tuned impunity. For a year now, they’ve stirred up a sludge that owes as much to the Bay Area’s past as it does to AmRep’s glory days, garnering comparisons to The Melvins, Neurosis, and Unsane.
The band’s namesake was a neglected tenement in British Hong Kong. Unclaimed by both China and Britain, it blossomed into a squalid, labyrinthine enclave for gangsters, crooks, whores and junkies — a description not too far off the mark for portions of San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, where the band rehearses and finds gritty inspiration. “Turk, Taylor, and Jones” re-imagines the neighborhood’s inhabitants as flesh-starved zombies, their teeth stained red as they claw for the next fix.
The band’s first EP, recorded in a single day by Evans in the band’s rehearsal space, comes out September 30 on Wordclock Records. Featuring “Turk, Taylor, and Jones” and four other songs, the Turk Street EP will be available on 10” red translucent vinyl, CD, and through iTunes and other internet retailers. Shortly afterward the band will begin work on a follow-up EP." (from their Bio).

Check here for their 5-song EP called "Turk Street". It's
available on 10" vinyl and CD, but also for free download: Turk Street.

This is really terrific stuff, I had the earlier demo version, but this has a couple extra tracks. These dudes are gonna continue to impress in the future I'm sure. Thanks as always!
This is a really killer recording. I'm glad I snagged it. I'll be looking for more from these guys in the future.
This has to be one of my favorites from the last few months. For such a young band (newly formed) they have an enormous amount of talent and chemistry. Here at the swamp is where I first heard of these guys once again. I've actually e-mailed back and forth with the band since and they are in the writing process for a new EP. This stuff is killer. The story behind their name is quite interesting as well. Great sound. Clear while retaing the appropriate amount of filth and atmosphere. One of the best new bands this year.
