Of the several Sabbath-inspired bands on the Hellhound label, Sweden's Count Raven was probably the most representative of the classic doom sound for which Hellhound was renowned. The band comes dangerously close to cloning (especially with the vocals being very Ozzy-like) but in general the songs are strong enough to overlook this. After four albums, a deteriorating working relationship between founder Dan Fondelius and the other two members forced the band to fold in March of 1999. Fondelius went on to form a new band by the name of Doomsday Government, but little was heard from this band. Soon enough, the band was reported as back in action in spring 2004, with touring plans in place and possible future recording plans in the works as well, but by early 2006 dissention again caused a split in the band, this time resulting in Fondelius simply hiring two new members and carrying on as Count Raven.
